Provider Expertise

Clinical Interest for Patients

Dr. Elise Hiza is a board certified, fellowship-trained Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon specializing in the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, hip and knee injuries. Dr. Hiza received her undergraduate degree at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO and then went on to medical school at the University of Colorado. After medical school, she completed her extensive residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon finishing residency training, Dr. Hiza underwent an additional year of fellowship training at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Los Angeles. In California, she honed her skills in cutting-edge arthroscopy and sports medicine techniques with world-leaders in the field. In 2017, the next chapter of Dr. Hiza's journey in medicine led her across the country to Asheville, North Carolina. There, she served as the Director of Sports Medicine at Mission Hospital, the head team physician for the University of North Carolina-Asheville, the Asheville Tourists (an Advanced-A Minor League baseball affiliate for the MLB Houston Astros) and the Asheville City Soccer semi-professional WPSL and USL teams. Dr. Hiza moved back to Colorado in 2021 to be near her family and beloved home state where she is now a member of the University of Colorado Orthopedic Sports Medicine Team and provides care for the CU Buffaloes athletic department.

Interests & Activities

Personal Interests

Dr. Hiza grew up on a cattle ranch on the plains of southeast Colorado and comes from an athletic background. She was a three-sport high school athlete and collegiate volleyball player. Dr. Hiza also worked as an athletic trainer for the football and women's lacrosse teams at Colorado College. She is very interested in junior, club, high-school and collegiate athletics, as well as women's sports. Her upbringing on a farm and cattle ranch fostered an interest in the care of rodeo athletes and also in the "working athlete"— individuals who are employed, and sometimes injured, in active industries. Coming from an athletic background and having personally undergone several surgeries and recoveries herself, Dr. Hiza understands the importance of getting her patients back to their active lifestyles using conservative methods if possible. If surgery is required, she attempts to use minimally invasive methods for a rapid recovery process.
