Care Philosophy

My goal is to deliver evidence-based and holistic care to pregnant women in a compassionate and thorough manner. I believe in presenting comprehensive information about the pregnancy to the patient and her family, empowering them to be part of the decision-making process while also providing them with evidence-based, medical recommendations. Pregnancy is a time of great joy but can also be stressful, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to care for women during this special time in their lives.

Research Interests for Patients

My research is focused on understanding what regulates blood flow in the placenta, especially in cases of severe, early-onset growth restriction. Specifically, my long-term goal is to identify and target abnormalities that can lead to poor placental blood flow, which in turn, can result in adverse pregnancy outcomes such as poor fetal growth requiring early delivery.

Clinical Interests for Referring Providers

Severe, early-onset fetal growth restriction

Research Interest for Referring Providers

(1) Severe, early-onset fetal growth restriction: Our lab focuses on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying placental insufficiency-mediated fetal growth restriction, and more specifically, the molecular mechanisms that underlie abnormal fetoplacental hemodynamics (e.g. absent/reversed umbilical artery Doppler velocimetry). (2) Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy (CHAP) Maternal Follow-up: I am the site PI for a multi-center, NIH-funded study that investigated the role of anti-hypertensive therapy in pregnancy for mild-to-moderate chronic hypertension. This trial was completed and was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2022, and this study is now focused on maternal follow-up outcomes. (3) Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network (MFMU): Sub-site to the Utah Clinical Center. I am the sub-site PI of this multi-center, NICHD-sponsored trial. Our institution is currently participating in SLEEP and PROSPECT.
