Care Philosophy

Cancer changes lives in many ways beyond the disease itself, and preserving a person's ability to live independently and meaningfully should be a fundamental part of their care. As a cancer rehabilitation physician, I am dedicated to helping patients maintain and restore their function, mobility, and quality of life throughout every stage of cancer care. I believe the best care begins with understanding each person as an individual. Every patient has different goals, values, and priorities, and my role is to understand what matters most to them and help them overcome the physical and neurologic effects of cancer and its treatment. Whether that means reducing pain, improving mobility, restoring strength, managing nerve or musculoskeletal conditions, or helping someone return to work, hobbies, or family activities, my goal is to help patients achieve the highest level of function and independence possible. My approach combines evidence-based rehabilitation with personalized care. Treatment plans may include rehabilitation therapies, exercise, medications, procedures, orthotics or assistive devices, and close collaboration with the oncology team. I strive to build lasting relationships with my patients and their families, supporting them through the challenges of treatment, recovery, and survivorship. One of the greatest privileges of my career is caring for people living with cancer. Working in academic medicine allows me to care for patients while also educating future physicians and advancing the field of cancer rehabilitation through research and collaboration. My hope is that every patient has the opportunity to receive rehabilitation care that helps them not only navigate cancer treatment but continue living a full and meaningful life.
