Clinical Interest for Patients

I apply my breadth of experience in lung physiology, computer programming, machine learning prediction models, environmental monitoring, and epidemiology to conduct highly collaborative clinical-translational research that investigates the features and patterns of lung function in pediatric respiratory disease and aims to improve respiratory health in children. I have distinct expertise in measuring oscillometry in children in multiple clinical contexts and in applying advanced computational methodologies to analyze these physiologic measures. I bring this expertise to my own investigations as well as to my valuable within- and cross-department/institution team science collaborations with pediatric physician scientists, molecular and computational biologists, biostatisticians, and epidemiologists. I am deeply committed to mentorship of trainees and colleagues, which I believe is a key component of a successful research program.

Research Interests for Patients

My research program has four overarching goals: 1. Advance the dissemination and implementation of lung function measurement techniques to improve low-burden monitoring of respiratory disease progression and treatment responses. 2. Investigate the impact of personal- and community-level environmental factors on respiratory morbidity and lung function in early childhood to identify modifiable exposures that decrease susceptibility to respiratory illness and exacerbation. 3. Understand the longitudinal relationships between lung function and airway endotype trajectories during early childhood to identify periods of exposure susceptibility and optimal timepoints for treatment of asthma and wheezing illnesses. 4. Provide education to learners at all levels including faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, undergraduates, and clinical staff on lung physiology, lung function measurements, environmental triggers of asthma, clinical study design, novel analytical approaches, and data management.
