Care Philosophy

I am dedicated to providing the highest quality, professional, and ethical care to all patients. I am a physician-scientist committed to a combined academic track of research and clinical service. I carry out my clinical responsibilities as a pediatric pathologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where I provide diagnostic expertise in pediatric surgical and autopsy pathology with subspecialty expertise in pediatric lung disease. I provide comprehensive diagnostic service for infants and children with pulmonary disease by coordinating multidisciplinary approach through The Breathing Institute, Department of Pediatric Surgery and Colorado Institute for Maternal and Fetal Health. I have a career-long passion for understanding the mechanisms of lung vascular development and related disorders in order to develop novel strategies that could lead to earlier diagnoses, prevention, and potential cures for infants and children with pulmonary vascular disease. I serve as a nationally and internationally recognized pediatric pulmonary pathology case consultant.

Research Interest for Referring Providers

I am physician-scientist specializing in pulmonary vascular biology. My laboratory has made a number of original discoveries regarding lung development and associated disorders. My independently funded research programs represent new and independent paths of scientific investigation. I have maintained consistent funding support for my research efforts, including multiple peer-reviewed, competitive, government and private foundation grants. My overall academic goal is to build a bridge between the research bench and the bedside to develop therapies to treat or cure neonatal and pediatric lung disorders and to establish a laboratory with a focus on training physician-scientists committed to furthering this mission.
