Patients Share Their Experiences

For Patient Experience Week, many shared their CU Medicine experience with us. We heard wonderful stories of healing and gratitude and have compiled some of them.

We asked patients to share their CU Medicine experiences with us, and we got a lot of great responses. Check out some of them below. We would love to hear your experience: please click here to share your story.

Patient Experiences

“The medical care we've received has been in the most caring, patient-centered manner that has always put us at ease and created a spirit of optimism about recovery and quality of life in the long term.”

Dr. Metzl saved my leg from unnecessary amputation, AND my life by diagnosing me with a very rare disease which got me treatment that put me in remission after 6 years.”

“In 1999 and 2000, doctors and nurses in the CU Oncology Department and radiation doctors and technicians saved my life. I have been cancer free since then. I now have heart issues and Dr. Natasha Altman, and her nurses and staff are WONDERFUL!!! They are so knowledgeable, patient and always kind. Thank you!”

“I was a patient under the combined care of Dr. David BadeschDr. Todd Bull, and Dr. Jay Pal in March of 2021. I was hospitalized for pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE), which in a nutshell is an open-chest surgery aimed at removing pulmonary blood clots. These clots nearly ended my life, had it not been for the above-mentioned physicians and an army of kind and dedicated nurses and staff.”

“My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer but never smoked. Dr. Ross Camidge figured out that my husband has a genetic mutation and found the correct targeted treatment for my husband's lung cancer. Because of Dr. Camidge, my husband is doing great!”

Dr. Sabri and Katie his NP are awesome. Never had two people on the same team that truly care about a patient's ortho needs. I have gone through two spinal surgeries with them and I would not want to be with anyone else. They are both uplifting but realistic, never was there really a surprise. Complications yes, but they always followed through and made sure I was taken care of. Even calling after being in surgery all day to update me. I am their strange case but they've always been upbeat and caring even when I felt at my lowest. Would not trade them for anyone else."

“I have three doctors at CU that I would like to thank and share how they helped me with my breast cancer journey. Dr. Gretchen Ahrendt - breast cancer surgeon - I had a bilateral mastectomy. From the very first consultation that I had with Dr. Ahrendt, she made me feel comfortable, well-informed and confident with my decisions on my upcoming surgery. She was caring and reassuring. Dr. Justin Cohen - plastic surgeon - I had direct to implants surgery. Dr. Cohen did a great job and I have had no complications with my implants. He made all the right recommendations and the surgery went very well. Dr. Radhika Acharya-Leon - oncologist - Dr. Acharya-Leon has been instrumental with my post-surgery care. She is very caring and informative and I feel like I'm in good hands with my breast cancer treatment.”
